Texas Bluebonnets @ Gullett
Texas Bluebonnet Award Program @Gullett is for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. We participate in the Texas Library Association's children's choice award book program. Each year TLA will publish a list of 20 nominated books that Texas students then read and vote on their favorite. To be eligible to vote, students must read at least 5 of the nominated books. The Bluebonnet books are shelved on the bookshelf just inside the front door of the library. We have lots of copies of each book, but they are in high demand. You may also request them from APL. A copy of the current list can be found on the TLA website : http://www.txla.org/TBA.
The details of the Bluebonnet program at Gullett are: 1. Read one of the nominated books. 2. Take a very simple 5 question test on that book. 3. Place the test in the designated envelope in the front of your class' notebook. 4. Tests will be graded and a sticker placed on your individual page in the class notebook. @Gullett we have 3 levels of recognition for completion of reading the Bluebonnet Books. READ 5 Books: 1. You are eligible to vote. 2. You are invited to the Bluebonnet Bash held in February. READ "Gooch Mathematics": 1. You are eligible to vote. 2. You are invited to the Bluebonnet Bash held in February. 4. You are invited to the Bluebonnet Surprise Party held in May. READ "Gooch Mathematics" during 3rd, 4th, AND 5th Grade: 1. All of the above PLUS 2. The library will give you either a signed copy of the winning book your 5th grade year or any nominated book! For parents: Reading 10(3rd), 12(4th), 15(5th) books from the list of 20 nominated books is called "Gooch Mathematics." We do this because the reading levels of the list ranges from third through sixth grade. So, instead of requiring all 20 books to be read, we make the upper level of recognition only 10, 12, 15 books. That is where "Gooch Mathematics" comes in... In the Gullett Library, it is the only place on earth where 10, 12, & 15 = 20. |
